Brodi Henderson, a 19-year-old kid from Victoria, BC, is the first Canadian to get trained at a sumo stable in 30+ years. At 6’7″ and many pounds, he was a super huge judo kid, but nobody wanted to fight him. So he got into sumo instead, and won the US championship.
Talking about this, my wife said, “If he was born in the US, he’d probably be a football player.”
How many other things in our lives do we get pigeon-holed into just because we fit a shorthand frame for certain characteristics? And how many possibilities are out there for someone with your characteristics that everyone else is overlooking?
