Though I’m totally healthy, at times today I’ve felt like I’ve been living a fever-dream as I’ve been reading Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer.
What got me to pick it up was hearing that he wrote the whole book while sick. And it has been a captivating read so far.
I often give myself excuses when I’m sick:
- I’ll be more efficient if rest now and work later
- If I work too hard I won’t get over this
- The wise thing to do is rest up
I’m not denying that those are valid, nor am I saying any other course of action is wiser, but now I’m starting to think that even being sick could be a great opportunity for the right kind of project. Of course, I’m not the only one affected by my sickness, I’ve got a family to take care of, too.
Nonetheless, consistently showing up for something is more important than feeling up for it.
