When I go on a long run (long for me), I feel like I learn something about myself. How do I respond to an uncertain goal? Do I prioritize my long term state of being or do I focus on the immediate goal? How do I talk to myself and describe what is happening to me an how I feel when it’s very hard to keep going?
I used to feel more strongly that I had to prove myself against hig school athletes half my age, but now I’d rather push myself a reasonable amount for my level, learn something in the process, and if possible avoid the kind of injury that would make me have to stop.
I don’t have to be the best? Or even competitive, to get a lot of value out of a skill.
